I love Grandaddy. They are perhaps my favorite band, and I'll tell you why. One of the functions of ancient Navaho myth, says Joseph Campbell, was "to claim the land. To turn the land where they lived into a place of spiritual relevance." Now, I don't know any of the members of Grandaddy or presume to know the true subject matter of their songs. I only know how their songs sound. They sound like where I'm from.
